Puppy's First Groom
The first appointment matters more than any that follow. Get it right and grooming is boring for the rest of their life. Get it wrong and you spend years undoing it.
From $35. A first groom is often shorter than a standard one, and priced accordingly.
How it goes
- Come early, not late. Any time after their vaccinations are done. Waiting until the coat is a problem means their first visit is also their hardest.
- Short on purpose. The goal is a puppy who thinks this place is fine, not a perfect haircut.
- Every tool introduced slowly. Clippers on, clippers off. Dryer on low first. Nothing arrives as a surprise.
- We stop while it is still going well. Ending on a good moment is worth more than finishing the trim.
- Build from there. The second visit is easier because the first one was.
A puppy who has been rushed once remembers it. This is the single easiest place to spend a little extra time and save years of trouble.
Questions
How old should my puppy be?
Once their vaccination course is complete, which is usually around 16 weeks. Earlier is better than later.
Will you get the whole groom done?
Maybe, and it does not matter much if we do not. A first visit that ends calmly halfway through is a better outcome than a finished haircut and a puppy who now hates the table.
What can I do at home to help?
Handle their feet and ears daily, and get them used to a brush before they need one. A full guide here.
Grooming hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, inside Camp Bow Wow Monument in Monument. Those are not the same as Camp Bow Wow's front desk hours, so please come during grooming hours. Serving Monument, Palmer Lake, Woodmoor and Gleneagle.
