How it goes
- Bath and a proper dry. Undercoat comes out far better after a wash and a high-velocity dry than it does dry.
- Undercoat rake and blow out. The dryer does most of the work. The tools finish it.
- Check the skin. Blowing coat can hide hot spots. I look.
- Never shaved. A double coat is insulation in both directions. Shaving a husky or a Pyrenees does not keep them cool and it can grow back wrong.
Best for Huskies, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Great Pyrenees, Samoyeds, Corgis, Labs, Bernese and Australian Shepherds.
Questions
How often?
Twice a year around the big coat blows, and often a light one in between. Colorado's dry air and big seasonal swings make it more than twice for a lot of dogs.
Will this stop the shedding?
No, and anyone promising that is overselling. It removes the dead undercoat that is going to come out anyway, so far less of it lands on your floor.
Can you just shave him instead?
For a double-coated breed, I would rather not, and I will explain why at the appointment. It does not cool them down and the coat can come back patchy.
Grooming hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, inside Camp Bow Wow Monument in Monument. Those are not the same as Camp Bow Wow's front desk hours, so please come during grooming hours. Serving Monument, Palmer Lake, Woodmoor and Gleneagle.
